QBE sinks 7.7 million euro claim on Generali’s Spanish yacht

By Sophia Dourou (August 2, 2022, 6:54 p.m. BST) – A London court has prevented insurer Generali from taking Spanish legal action against rival QBE for a payment of 7.7 million euros (7.8 million dollars) after a yacht damaged an undersea cable.

The High Court on Monday accepted QBE UK’s offer to stop the Spanish litigation brought against it by Generali España SA de Seguros y Reaseguros, finding that the dispute falls under arbitration under the policy provided by QBE for the yacht .

Judge David Foxton ruled that QBE could seek an anti-suit injunction even though QBE Europe is now technically the insurer party to the contract after the transfer of the policy…
